Trying to Forget You

My body went completely cold

The moment I realized we would never be

The second I realized I would never see you again

Or hear you tell me that you love me.

I spent much of that day crying

Trying to figure out where it all went wrong

Then I decided it was time to try to forget you.

I would try to forget how you made me laugh

Read me the news every morning

Had me listen to every one of your favorite songs

Worked diligently to solve life problems for me

And taught me things I hadn’t even thought of knowing.

When in trying to forget all that it made me think of it more

I began to try to forget about your beautiful eyes

Those lips that through many conversations I just stared at.

No, none of that was going to work

All of it made me miss you more

Made me think of you more

And made me wish I wasn’t trying so hard

To forget you.
