Contorting myself into a fanciful feast
While pretending nothing mattered
Though absolutely everything did.
My world was quite literally crashing around me
Made excuses as to why there was an absence
While quoting ‘Keats’ in Latin.
Answered the riddle you failed to solve
With antidote of my own
With a flair for the ignorant.
Faithless covets forlorn
A hefty price is paid for it
Though sometimes it feels rather unfair.
Outwardly you would think I was trying to rule the planet
Taking it on like a vicious plague
Inwardly I’m scared and withdrawn.
Tenaciously I grasp for the loudest one in my life
Thinking it was my life preserver
All the while, he was trying to drown me.
