Pain is a barrier;
It prevents you from feeling
Appropriately.
It prevents you from moving
Willingly.
When you speak of your pain
It lessens.
When you hear others speak of theirs
It helps you heal.
The only way
To remove the barrier
Is straight through it.
A child kneels on the beach
Writes words in the sand
What once was a loving mother
Now is a forceful hand.
She wants to tell the world
But doesn’t think anyone will care.
Her mother once ripped a dress of hers
Then pulled her beautiful hair.
Now as an adult she’s told to deal
With the pain her mother caused.
Through the barrier the woman goes
Into the light, she paused.
When you aren’t used to seeing the good
When all you’ve known is pain,
The light can be overwhelming
But peace, you can attain.
