My Life Is Over

The rough edges are smooth now

Water runs down where it was once pooled.

All the elements are forming alliances

The asses have been fooled.

The past is up on shelves

Neatly dusted yet ignored.

I had fun for a little while

But then I got really bored.

Sat lazily in my room

Watching the fields of clover

Then he came into my life

And finally, it is over.

No more tears of anger

Or that relentless sense of freedom

Now I don’t mind being chained

At least not with him.

All he had to do was smile

Look over his shoulder.

One day I told him

“Finally, my life is over.”
