Hours in muffled conversation
Tears at the kitchen table.
Knowing you wanted forever
Yet understanding you weren’t able.
Rings left in display
Of emotions you couldn’t show
We’d put the cart before the horse
But how were we to know?
Other lives now take our minds
To places we’d rather not be
I wish it were you all this time
Standing next to me.
Honest emotions run rampant
Ones we wish for a moment we’d hid
Never took the covers off me
But I bet you wish you did.
