Snake in the Garden

For starters we began as friends

We ran around through all the trees.

By the time I could count to ten

We are all bitter enemies.

Two stand side by side

While I stand all alone.

Facing demons I cannot explain

Wondering where they had gone.

Shed no tears for the raging betrayal

Should have expected it all along.

What bothers me the most

Is written in my song.

There is a snake somewhere in my garden

Maybe even in my bed?

If I find it, which I will someday

I’ll cut off its lying head.
